Why defined connection technology is critical
HPLC, UHPLC and LC/MS systems continuously discharge liquid waste through capillaries or tubing. If these lines are only placed loosely into a container opening or connected through improvised transitions, lines can slip, ports can remain open and solvent vapors can escape in an uncontrolled manner.
A professionally configured waste system therefore routes waste lines into the container through suitable connections. Unused ports on manifolds or modular connection solutions are closed with the specified blanking plugs.
When waste liquid flows into the container continuously, the displaced gas phase must be be able to leave the container in a controlled manner. This helps prevent back pressure and impermissible pressure build-up in the disposal system.

Polymer or stainless-steel coupling: the connection must match
Depending on the model or customer-specific configuration, Justrite HPLC disposal cans are equipped with polymer or stainless-steel quick couplings. These variants differ not only in material, but also in connection geometry and seal design.
The SCAT adapter must therefore always be selected to match the coupling actually installed on the container. For clear identification, check the Justrite model number and the existing coupling before ordering. If this information is not conclusive, a photo of the coupling supports technical selection. Filtered venting instead of an open container port
Many solvents used in chromatography are volatile and evaporate even at room temperature. At the same time, collecting liquid waste creates a need for venting: when waste liquid flows into the container, the displaced gas phase must be discharged in a defined manner.
The combination of a Justrite container, a suitable SCAT adapter and an appropriate SCAT exhaust filter enables defined liquid inlet routing and controlled, filtered venting. Volatile solvent vapors can be adsorbed in the exhaust filter, helping reduce the solvent load in laboratory air.
Manual waste input with the SCAT safety funnel MARCO
For manual input of smaller waste quantities, MARCO provides a separate filling point that can be closed in a defined way. The hinged lid with integrated seal supports safe handling, while the removable sieve retains solids such as magnetic stir bars.

Check materials and chemical resistance for the specific application

Chemical resistance is not determined by the container material alone.
