Containers in the Laboratory: Safety and Functionality
Various types of containers are used in the laboratory to safely store, transport and dispose of liquids, e.g. canisters, laboratory bottles, collection and safety containers. They differ in a variety of materials, capacities and thread sizes, depending on the intended use. Especially when supplying the HPLC / UHPLC with solvents and collecting liquid waste, the selection of the appropriate container is important for safety and process quality.
Whether solvent supply or waste: SCAT containers are resistant to many chemicals such as solvents or acids. They are compatible with the SCAT safety system and are available in many materials - including electrically conductive synthetics!
Safety Aspects
Leaking containers cause significant risks to the health of laboratory workers and the environment, particularly by escaping vapors of solvents and other chemicals. These vapors can be toxic, irritating or even flammable and cause health problems even with small but constant exposure. Reliable sealing is therefore required at all times.
Material and chemical Resistance
Chemical resistance is essential to ensure the containers can withstand the substances stored in them. Different chemicals can react differently with different materials. Containers made from glass, stainless steel or high performance plastics are resistant to the most common chemicals. Containers made of electrically conductive plastic offer additional advantages in terms of safety and occupational safety. They enable grounding against static charging and reduce the risk of ignition hazards. Dissipating static electricity prevents dangerous discharges that could cause an explosion or fire, especially when handling flammable solvents or other flammable substances.
